📖 About This Game
DuoLex is a letter stacking, tile flipping, transformational word game for two players.
Components: 105 two-sided tiles or cards in a small bag.
Letters are the same on both sides except reverse black versus white. Tiles have single letters, double letters (bigrams) and trigrams.
Goal: Get the highest score by claiming the most letter points with tiles of your color. Note that that is not a crossword-style word game.
Setup:
Either player picks their color: black or white.
Shuffle the tiles within the bag.
Each player draws six tiles as their initial "hand".
Game Play:
Taking turns, each player lays tiles adjacently on the table to form words in a straight line as noted below. After placing your tiles, replenish your hand to a maximum of six tiles.
Forming Words:
There are several ways of forming a word.
- place contiguous tiles from your hand to make a whole new word.
- place a tile on top of an existing tile to make a new word
- insert a tile between existing tiles to a word into a new word.
- take one or more tiles from another word, in addition to one or more tiles from your hand, to form a new word - the source of tiles must still be a valid word (even if reshuffled).
Note that when placing each tile, flip it use your color.
Ending the Game:
The game ends when no more tiles can be placed.
Scoring:
Both players add up the points of all tiles of their color and deduct the value of any unplayed tiles.
