(Are you expecting me to defeat the demon lord just because I’m a hero?) or (Do you seriously think you are going to defeat the Devil King just because you are brave?), emphasising the counter-play tone of the game.
Players are trying to reach a central castle and defeat the Demon King (Maou éç is a generic fantasy term for the/a devil king or demon lord). They can be aided in their quest by Jewel Fairies. There are six player characters drawn from who have different weapons, but each character also has some trouble. The winner is not the player who reaches Maou first, but second, and helps defeat Maou.
As the players progress along the path, they play mini-games which serve as training for the main game. Each player is trying to move themselves forward, but keep moving other players forward too, so that they get to arrive second after another player.
The game has various decks of adventure stories, so there is variety as you play it over again.
